Mailchimp's free plan stops at 250 contacts and 500 emails a month. If your site runs on WordPress, your list can live there instead: Postalion keeps subscribers in your own database, has no contact or send limits, and sends through the mail service you choose. Here is what changes, and what you give up.
At a glance
| Postalion | Mailchimp (free plan) | |
|---|---|---|
| Contacts | No limit | 250 |
| Emails | No limit (your mail service may have its own) | 500 a month, 250 a day |
| Where your list lives | Your WordPress database | Mailchimp's servers |
| Their logo in your emails | Never | On the free plan |
| Sign-up forms | Block, popup, under every post, page builders, form plugins, WooCommerce checkout | Embedded forms and pop-ups |
| New post by email, digests | Built in, no RSS setup | Through RSS campaigns |
| Automations with branches, segments, A/B subjects | Pro, $59 a year | Paid plans, priced by contacts |
What it costs instead
Postalion is free. Emails leave through WordPress or an SMTP service: Brevo and others have free daily allowances, and Amazon SES charges around ten cents per thousand emails. A list of 5,000 people getting four newsletters a month is a few dollars, whatever the size of your list next year. Pro is a flat $59 a year for one site, not a price per contact.

Moving from Mailchimp
- In Mailchimp, open Audience → All contacts → Export Audience and download the zip.
- In WordPress, install Postalion and go to Subscribers → Import from Mailchimp. Upload the zip as it is.
- Choose where each column goes. Tags, custom fields and sign-up dates come over; people who unsubscribed stay unsubscribed; bounced addresses stay behind.
- Set your sending method (Settings → Sending method), send a test, then your first newsletter.
The details are in Importing from Mailchimp.
What you give up
- Mailchimp's own delivery. You choose a mail service once; our sending guide covers the common ones.
- Things beyond email: Mailchimp also does landing pages, SMS, social ads and a CRM. Postalion is about newsletters and the emails around them.
- Hosted reports across many sites. Postalion's statistics live on each site.
Postalion is not affiliated with Mailchimp or Intuit. Mailchimp is a trademark of its owner. Free-plan limits as shown on Mailchimp's pricing page in October 2026.
